Around 20 Cub Scouts from the Slip End
Scout group had a date with cycling acrobats when they took part in a
BMX challenge recently. Apart from the thrill of an action packed
display, the youngsters were given help with cycling safety and the
importance of good maintenance.
The
Cub Scouts were visited
by local cycling display team Techriders who brought along their
machines for them to see. Following a breathtaking display of skills
which had the bikes doing wheelies and hand stands the Cubs had their
turn. They used their own bikes to show what they could do. The display
team explained about cycling safety and then showed them how to look
after their own bikes and carry out general maintenance.
All of the
evening’s activities will count towards the Cubs cycling badge, which
the group hope to complete following a cycle ride in the next few
months.
Cub Scout James Evers said, "I really enjoyed watching the riders show
off their skills on all of their different bikes". Christopher Kelly,
another Cub Scout, added, "The men from Techriders showed us all how to
look after our bikes properly". Young Cub Scout Lauren Redmond was full
of praise for the riders. She said, "I liked it when they talked to us
about all of the safety equipment that they use, and told us why it is
needed".
