Scarecrows &  Tea

"Extreme Scarecrowing" in action ...

At the AGM, on the 22nd September 2008, Lea Valley's District Commissioner Liz Burnham announced the following Awards that would be presented at the Next AGM in  March 2009 and at the following one in March 2010:

  • Extreme Scarecrowing

  • Most Nights Away in Scouting Experiences

  • Most Improved Youth Member

  • Scout Group with the most Chief Scout Awards

  • 100 Nights Away in Scouting Experiences

  • Tea Challenge

Liz said "The awards are something to work towards and "play" with over the coming months. Some are a bit of fun; some are to  recognise the achievement of our members. It is hopped that they are seen as an enhancement of the balanced programme scheme and not as something that must be done. Enjoy them!"

Extreme Scarecrowing

The first instance of Extreme Scarecrowing has already  taken place at the "Back to Basics" Leaders Camp. Pictured above, Richard from the 10th Harpenden Scout Group dresses up as a scarecrow and perches on top of the pioneering project the leaders had just made.

Groups may interpret as they like, the young or older members can dress up as scarecrows then go and do something 'extreme' or the sections, or even whole groups, can make a scarecrow that is taken to unusual places for a scarecrow to be. There will be awards for each section and one overall. Each extreme scarecrowing incident must be recorded and verified by a contactable person.

Most Nights Away in Scouting Experiences

These awards are for the number of nights away youth members participate in. There will be awards per section, per group and per individual.

Most Improved Young Person

Leaders will be invited to nominate youth members for this award.

Group with the Most Chief Scout Awards

The aim of each section is to enable it's youth members to gain the Chief Scout Award for that section, through the balanced programme and adventurous activities. This award recognises the hard work of the youth members and leaders as they strive to achieve the Chief Scout Awards. All members who achieve their Chief Scout Award will be invited to attend the Bedfordshire County Chief Scout Award Ceremony.

100 Nights Away in Scouting Experiences

Whilst there may  not be the time to fit in 100 night away before March 2009, this award will be presented to any member who achieves this goal!

Tea Challenge

The challenge is to find the weirdest place to make a cup of tea and then drink it. Again, this needs to be recorded and verified by a contactable person.

Entries for all of these should be with the District Commissioner by the 1st March 2009 and 1st March 2010.
