Strathmore Scout Group Performance

Strathmore Cubs & Scouts represented the District at the recent Luton Council of Faiths "One World Week" event. The event was a bringing together of all faith communities from across Luton so that they could share with each other a small piece of their religion or culture.

With music, song and dance from all corners of the world, from Irish Dancing, an Indian Tale, and Polish Singing to an Islamic prayer, a Malaysian dance and a Sikh Song. With food and drinks from a wide variety of different cultures and of course the Fair Trade Co-operative.

For their performance the Cubs & Scouts used the Makaton sign language to sign the words of a couple of songs. Makaton uses signs and symbols to teach communication, language and literacy skills to people with communication and learning difficulties. Makaton is used in many countries around the world including Pakistan, Poland, India, Japan, and South Africa to name but a few.

Strathmore Scouts performance of "You'll never walk alone" received  a rapturous round of applause from the entire audience. Liz Burnham, Lea Valley's District Commissioner, later said "how wonderful your performance was, I was very proud to be connected to you all! Well done everyone!"

Ryad Khodabocus, Community Faiths Development Worker for Luton Council of Faiths, praised the Cubs and the Scouts and added "I would like to thank you all for your participation in the One World Week event organised by Luton Council of Faiths. Although it was the Strathmore Scout Group who performed, they represented the whole of Lea Valley District and the worldwide family of Scouts.

Luton Council Of Faiths has been working hard to create a cohesive Luton and thanks to your presence you have boosted up this vision and aim. Above all, Scouting is about peace making."
