Bedfordshire Scouts 2007
Centenary
Calendar
It is almost a century since a hero of the
Boer War took a group of youngsters on a camping trip to Brownsea Island
and founded the world's most famous youth organisation.
Bedfordshire's own 5,600-strong Scout movement has decided to celebrate
the moment Robert Baden Powell sounded a bugle call to start the first
Scout camp with its own special centenary county calendar.
County archivist Cynth Sutherst, who researched the local history for
the calendar, said: "Obviously it was difficult to decide what to
include from the enormous range of items in the scout archive at county
hall.
"We sifted through a mountain of records to try to produce something
that will be a valuable record of what has made Scouting so important in
the life of Bedfordshire people."
Each month of the calendar has a relevant
Scouting themed picture on it's leaf, which is showing on the left of
your screen now, and the calendar comes in a smart jewel case that
doubles as a desk stand.
Included along with the calendar, is a
reminder of key Scouting milestones and activities over the years. As
well as a timetable of the Scout Associations major events for the
Centenary year.
The calendar costs £4.50 each (Postage
is free!), all profits are being given to the County Jamboree Fund. This
fund is helping local Scouts attend the 21st World Jamboree in July
2007.
