Dear Parents and Carers,
As you know 2007 is a
very special year for us in Scouting, Celebrating 100 years of the
worlds biggest youth movement!
One of the major
celebration events is the renewal of the Scout Promises, which we all
make when we are invested as members, at Scouting’s Sunrise.
On the 1st of
August 1907 the very first Scouts made their Promise, this was the true
beginning of a movement that has grown into something huge! On the 1st
August 2007, to celebrate the dawning of a new centenary of Scouting,
every single member of the Scouting family who have made the promise
have been asked to renew their promise at 8:00am. These Scouting Sunrise
events will be taking place worldwide, at 8:00am local time, so by the
end of our day on the 1st August over 28 million Scouts
worldwide would have renewed their promise!
For Lea Valley District
Scouting’s Sunrise event we have arranged for the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts
and Explorers to meet together by 7:45am. They should all be in smart
full uniform, as they would be for St. George’s Day (i.e. no jeans
please). Your leaders have details of where we will meet.
Afterwards, we will walk
to a near by Park and play a wide game. This will end at 9:00am.
We realize that the
timing of this event may cause some inconvenience as it is a work day,
however it is a very special day for every member of Scouting, and they
will not have the opportunity again to celebrate Scouting’s Sunrise in a
centenary year. If you are unable to make the Scouting's Sunrise event
here in Luton or if you are on holiday, your young Scout member can
still renew their promise, and we would love to see any pictures of them
doing this, especially at their holiday destinations!
I Hope to see as many of
you as possible on the 1st August at Lea Valley’s Scouting
Sunrise event.
Yours in scouting
Liz Burnham
