About the Author

Steve started scouting as a Beaver in the Luton Air Scouts (now called Lea scout group) at the age of 6 and went right through Cubs and Scouts and he is now a young leader at the colony's Beaver group. He has always had a great interest in all sports and he is hoping to do a Sports Journalism course at University. However, his football playing ability doesn't match his ability to write on it. His cricket on the other hand does, Steve has won 2 full England disabled caps at Cricket and is hoping for many more. 17-year old Steve, who is a mild, right-sided hemiplegic (which affects the whole of the right side of the body) and therefore, as an interesting aside, is allowed to salute using his left hand.

We’re so good; Even Mick Harford can’t help you!

Saturday 12th March

Swindon (H)

Mick Harford comes back to Kenilworth Road as Assistant Manager to Andy King at Swindon. We’re walking to the ground with an expectancy of victory, we won’t even go easy on our demi-god, then again, we love him because he would never go easy on anyone, well, except us!

Neither side started well, as if they both were willing to let the other win, so, eventually, Brkovic hit the deck for Nico to tuck home the penalty and rush off to the Player’s wives box to do a lay-up in order to high-five the injured Chris Coyne. We didn’t take too long to double the scoreline though, Brko slotted home after Sol’s wayward shot. 2-0 seemed to be a little harsh on our man Mick though, so we gave him a goal by letting a Michael Proctor corner go straight in for 2-1.

It then seemed like we spent the whole 2nd half deciding whether to put another goal past Mick’s side, Nicholls sending a free kick wide and Underwood hitting the bar. When Sam Parkin forced a save from Beresford and then Christian Roberts flashed one wide, we decide just to make sure and when Rhys Evans flapped and missed Nico’s cross, Peter Holmes headed home for 3-1. Enoch ‘The Daddy’ Showunmi had a chance for 4-1 but put it wide, deciding that 3-1 was enough damage to inflict on big Mick!

So, we didn’t quite get the multi-goal slaughter again; Well, we love Mick too much you see. On the way home however, we heard of something much more serious than me having a joke about us not winning by more just because Mick was there, Dave Hibbert, the 2-goal debutant against us for Port Vale, had received serious neck injuries in the game against MK Dons. Luckily, It wasn’t as serious as originally thought and he will be able to play football again and maybe even this season. He was very lucky indeed, because if it was a broken neck, we all know that it could have finished his life.
