On Sunday 8th October, Cubs & Beavers from Leagrave and Cubs from
Strathmore Scout Groups took part in the Walk for Wildlife 2006
sponsored walk at Whipsnade Zoo. Raising in excess if £150.00 to help
protect the Snow Leopard and it's environment, this years chosen good
cause.
Snow Leopards are running out of places to live. With its unique coat,
the snow leopard is one oft he most beautiful creatures in the world.
But it is a species that has to fight for survival. People are
encroaching on its territory. Poachers are hunting it for its pelt,
which is prized on the black market, and for its bones, which are
crushed to make pills and potions. The Snow Leopard can do no more to
protect itself. But we can, by helping the WWF raise much needed funds.
We managed to walk for 2 miles, which was one lap of the zoo, before
having a break for lunch and to watch the Sea lion Show. Then walking on
to see all the other animals around the zoo, including the newly born
Giraffe, we did a second lap of 2 miles. The weather was fantastic and
it was a very enjoyable day.
A quick reminder for everyone who took part, don't forget to return you
sponsor money by the 22nd November 2006!
