Thirteen
Cub Scouts from Lea Scout Group in Luton earned Comic Relief over £3 a
minute just by remaining silent for an hour and a half at a Red Nose Day
meeting.
Cub Scout
Leader Adrian Samm set the Cubs the challenge of keeping quiet for their
entire meeting and earning money for charity at the same time. He said,
"I have a weird sense of humour and thought it quite funny keeping noisy
Cubs silent for their 90 minute meeting. I didn't think they would
manage it."
He added,
"We had our normal activities including a silent grand howl all done
with sign language. The Cubs played games, tackled a general knowledge
quiz and made gifts for mother's day all without a sound. It was eerie."

During
the quiz the Cubs answered questions such as "Name two countries helped
by comic relief" and "Give the numbers you would dial for the
ambulance." There are points for each one. The countries are Ethiopia
and Uganda and the numbers are 999 and 112.

Connor
McKay was one Cub who found it harder than most to stay quiet. He won
the quiz and almost broke the silence in his excitement. With three
sponsor forms still to come in the Cubs raised the mammoth sum of £280
and expect to beat the £300 record. |
