Good Turn Girl Scout Starts
Teenage Blood Donor Campaign
Good turns for Scouts seem to have gone out
of fashion since the days when they helped old ladies across roads. And
the annual bob-a-job campaign disappeared in the aftermath of child
protection legislation. But an Explorer Scout from Luton has revived
this tradition with a new brand of good turn. She has become a blood
donor at the age of 17 and she’s out to encourage as many as 15,000
other Scouts to join her.

American Scouts Surprise
Visit For Peace Light Service
American Scouts from RAF Alconbury were
surprise guests at the Christmas Peace Light service held at All Saints
Church in Luton. They made the 100 mile trip from their base to join a
congregation of over 50 at this annual event. They said that it was a
special treat to be allowed to join in the celebrations.

District Cub Conker Championship 09
On Saturday 17th October, Lea Valley
District Cubs took part in their annual Conker Championship at the
Caddington Scout HQ. Starting at
10am with the first rounds, 22 games were played and the winners of
those games were put forward for the second round.

Census Figures - 5th Year of Growth
For the 5th Year in a row Lea Valley District has seen a growth in
membership numbers. From 311 last year to an impressive 357 this year.
As of the 31st January, Lea Valley District had: 78 Beaver Scouts, 132
Cub Scouts, 47 Scouts, 4 Explorer Scouts, 47 Leaders, 11 Sectional
Assistants, 6 Occasional Helpers, 22 Scout Fellowship, and a District
Team of 9 Adults. |

Cubs Get Safety Tips
Around 20 Cub Scouts from the Slip End
Scout group had a date with cycling acrobats when they took part in a
BMX challenge recently. Apart from the thrill of an action packed
display, the youngsters were given help with cycling safety and the
importance of good maintenance.
